This will keep you on the edge of your seat!
By Kelsey
"Aurora Firedrake had awoken, and I had no control over her."

I've been looking forward to this book since reading The Last of the Firedrakes in 2015. I loved the first book and couldn't wait for book two to come out, and let me just say, it did not disappoint!

Whereas I felt the first book was a bit predictable, I felt The Rise of the Dawnstar was anything but. It kept me on the edge of my seat, reading through betrayals, disappointments, and battles. This book picks up where book one left off, so the reader jumps right into the action. Aurora has to learn how to use her mage and Fae powers while being hunted by Morgana and you can see her character growth through all that she has gone through thus far.

And the world building! That was probably my favorite part of this book! Farah Oomerbhoy does such a wonderful job of building and expanding on this world she created, I wish I could travel there.

In many ways, it reminded me of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series / Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. We are introduced to a new character in this book, Tristan, the Prince of the Night Court, who quickly became a favorite of mine. He reminds me so much of Rowan Whitethorn and Rhysand, I quickly fell in love with him. This also leads me into the romance of the story. I have to disagree with many reviews about the romance. I think Tristan was supposed to be the third person in a love triangle, but I never really felt like they loved each other or that Aurora was torn between Rafe (her love interest in book one) and Tristan. They were more friends in my eyes. My problem (that might be too strong of a word) with the romance in the book was that Aurora doubted Rafe all the time. Someone would whisper in her ear that he would never come back for her, and she would believe them. I think this also shows her age though—she is still 17, still a teenager, and no matter her power, she is new to love.

Overall, I was impressed with this book and need book three!

"I was Aurora Firedrake, and I was born to be a queen."

"We all make mistakes, Aurora, but it is what we learn from them that makes all the difference."

My Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Another awesome installment in this fantasy series!

Omg, I didn't think this could get any better after the first book, but I was wrong! This installment was so engrossing that I couldn't put it down! The author does a great job of making the story more intricate without it bogging the reader down. The protagonist Aurora makes mistakes at first, like any normal 17 year old, but she does a lot of growing up and maturing, learning from her mistakes. Rage continues to dazzle as the charismatic Eldorian prince, and we finally get to meet some hot fae warriors, including the Prince of the Night Court Tristan. Woo hoo! Talk about sexy fae! This installment wonderfully weaves together what were seemingly loose plot threads and details from the first book. I loved it! The ending broke my heart a bit, ensuring I'll anxiously await the third book :)

Best book I have read in 10 years. And that's saying something
By lisianna chilcott
This, was FANTASTIC book and not only lived up to the expectations I had from the first book "The Last Of The Firedrakes" but it surpassed it. I have not read a book that felt like a rollercoaster in such a long time. Perfect oscillation of suspense and down time, but always the story moving forward and not stalling.

In my opinion, as a fellow author, she masterfully blends 1st person POV and 3rd person limited POV. And I am not even sure I have the words to expertly describe this, only to say that if you want to know what I mean then you should read the books. With so many books made only for eReaders, and the ease of having a vast library at the tough of a screen, there are not many books I will buy in hard copy now, let alone purchase the hard copy after reading the eBook or pre-order.

That being said, after finishing both books I went online and purchased their hardback companions and when the third book is read for pre-order I will buy that one too.

So, what else, caught my attention and kept me captivated?
1) Even though the book is 1st POV, she spends enough time in each scene where Aurora is observant enough of the other people she is around to where it feels like 3rd limited POV, without technically leaving 1st person. Because of this the scenes were very well rounded and we got to see a little bit of all out favorite characters.
2) it's not just some sappy love story for teens, but a bibliotherpeutically written piece of artwork geared towards positively influence her readers, especially young women.

What do I mean by that? I mean, that Aurora, grows, has to make decisions she doesn't want to make and deal with real life challenges that readers can identify with. she makes mistakes, and does her best to move forward in life more wisely and she accepts that people, especially her, have multi-faceted personalities and different situations call for different strengths.

3) Her character development, is so spot on that no two characters even resemble the another.
4) She doesn't spend too much time on description. Nor too much time in dialogue.
5) In today's world, its clean. There are only 2 times where I saw a curse word...appropriately used, "Bit**" and there is no adolescent sex in it, though she does get a few thorough kisses.

If you haven't read the books yet, then you're late. And Queen's don't like to be kept waiting.
