Kindle Edition has no Quality Control, Without Page Numbers and Contents difficult to Navigate

Kindle Edition does not include fold-out map at end, nor do free downloads from Google Play or Archive.org (though these editions show map image folded between Bibliography (page 90) and index (page 91). Also on skimming several words are mis-read electronically (so "Shrines" becomes "Shrinks"). This is my first Kindle order so I will be reluctant to try it again.

Great Read

Having grown up in the Southwest, I did a lot of hiking and backpacking in the Gila national Forest and the white Mountains of Arizona. This book provides more than just a glimpse into what this area must have been like 100 years ago. Reading the field notes of Adolph Bandelier was a real joy.

Steamy and erotic, but there are also some wonderfully sweet moments

“Tamed by the Buccaneer” is the final story in Normandie Alleman’s Jolie Rouge trilogy. After reading the first two I was anxious to see how Gaston and Frederica’s story would end. The romance is still steamy and erotic, but there are also some wonderfully sweet moments between Gaston and Frederica that show just how much the two have grown as a couple. There is plenty of excitement in this short story, and even a plot twist that will keep readers guessing. The ending is wonderfully sweet, and I was happily surprised that Alleman kept certain secondary characters from the first two books such as Miles and Hatch. “Tamed by the Buccaneer” is a great ending an erotic pirate adventure.

Gaston and Frederica have overcome their fair share of danger, but as they continue to pirate Gaston is realizing that the danger may be becoming too great. He wants to return to his plantation in Carolina, but Frederica is not so sure she is ready to give up her life of adventure. But when Gaston finds out Frederica may be pregnant he realizes he must convince her to return to dry land before danger overcomes them all.

Wonderful end to a wonderful set of sexy books

The third book in Normandie’s Buccaneer trilogy is here! I loved the first two books — Rescued by the Buccaneer and Bound by the Buccaneer — so I was SO STOKED when I realized that the third book was out!

This is the end of Gaston and Freddie’s story. I have to say. I’m going to miss them.

If you haven’t read the first two books… you need to go do that. These are NOT standalone books and should be read in order.

Even though this is the end of their story…it was a wonderful end to the three books. Normandie did a wonderful job of tying up any loose ends from the previous books and didn’t leave it hanging. (Y’all know how much I hate to be left hanging…)

In this one, Gaston and Freddie have to deal with a whole new adventure. Parenthood. Gaston’s been down this road once before (it was mentioned in the first book, I believe…and is mentioned again in this book) but lost both his first wife and child before joining the pirate life. So, Gaston’s fully on board with becoming a parent again. In fact, I’d say that he was downright HAPPY about it.

Freddie on the other hand…she doesn’t take the news too well. Having really never thought about having children, she’s really freaked out by the idea of becoming a mother. How will she continue her life at sea with a baby?

I loved watching her journey from “What am I going to do I’m not prepared for this” to “I like being a mom”. It was a long journey, and it definitely had it’s ups and downs…but I loved it.

We got to see the battle with Captain Humphrey come full circle in this book. Remember him? He’s the nasty old pirate that started out the story (with having a kidnapped Freddie playing servant upon his ship and all). I won’t go into all that happens, but he gets his comeuppance.

Fun Fact: Since first starting this trilogy, I have been playing around with genealogy. I discovered that I’m related to a pirate. But… not just any pirate. Captain Henry Morgan (also known as Captain Morgan — yes, the one on the rum bottle) is my first cousin, ten times removed. I think that the knowledge that I have a little pirate in me made me love the book(s) more.

I thought this was a book to end the trilogy. Like I said, no loose ends were left (thank you, Normandie). Tamed by the Buccaneer was just as well written as Rescued and Bound. I loved the book, and I loved how it ended. I can’t wait to see what Normandie puts out next.

Tamed by the Buccaneer gets a very solid 10/10 from me, and a place (next to the previous two) on my favorites list.

TAMED BY THE BUCCANEER by Normandie Alleman is a story from the Stormy Night collection that is a combination of historical romance, delicious pirates, and love. Book 3 in the Pirates of the Jolie Rouge Series, this reads well as a standalone story and Ms. Alleman does a great job of offering up tidbits, as reference from the first two stories and just enough to get you to want to read those as well.

The story opens with Gaston cajoling Frederica to join him in a romp, as he is always randy before battle. What we quickly learn is that this couple (husband and wife) will soon be fighting one of their cruelest enemies in a long anticipated battle. Gaston is secure in his battle plans and Frederica is a nervous wreck.

Without giving away spoilers, as the story progresses, I found the character development to be well done. I enjoyed the relationship and the love between the couple, as well as their interactions with the other characters. There is a certain level of kink (BDSM) in the story that is well-blended into the erotic scenes as well as in the heads of the characters, and I absolutely loved the m�nage a trois from Frederica's perspective, but you'll have to read the story to understand why. And well, PIRATES! Who doesn't love a good pirate love story?

Overall, I found this to be a well thought out story that has all the elements of fun storytelling in a historical romance. I found every aspect of it to be enjoyable and definitely recommend it.

This book does not offer nearly the level of detail ...

This book does not offer nearly the level of detail that the test expects. Thankfully Microsoft was offering a free online practice test (previously included with their books) so it was apparent how much was lacking from the book before I took the test. You need to use some other exam prep material if you expect to pass the test.

Would recommend to anyone else taking the 70-417 that in addition ...

Not adequate on its own. Does not go in depth enough with AD FS - which is a complete re-architect in 2012 and is a bit light on IPAM and HA. Took test today, scored 800 on the 410 and 411 objectives and 612 on the 412 objectives. 700 required on all 3. There are no labs in this text - at all. It suggests you go to the online labs which are frequently broken.

Would recommend to anyone else taking the 70-417 that in addition to this book they also buy the 70-412 training guiude

I would give this reference 3/5 stars. There is a lot of good information in this book, but you will NEED to supplement with MS virtual labs and other Microsoft resources in order to pass the upgrade exam. This book helps with bring a lot of information in to one location instead of searching the entire TechNet site. Additionally, the author does a decent job of explaining information you may not know.

The Ancient Secrets have their roots in the teachings of the Masters of Antiquity. These teachings go as far into the past as Hermes of Ancient Egypt, the Vedas of India, and the Bible. These teachings turned ordinary people into heroes, kings, and emperors. They became leaders, romantics, and visionaries who changed the world. These teachings are ageless, practical, and down to earth. They are for everyone and anyone who wants to take command of their life and mold it to their heart's desire.

There is a Chinese saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. This is true, but a story is worth a thousand pictures. The Spirit of man, the individualized Universal Spirit, does not speak or understand ordinary, everyday language. The language of the Soul or Consciousness is pictures, images, parables, metaphors, stories, and myths. That is why the Masters used these instruments to speak directly to the Spirit of man. That is also why Ancient Secrets of Success contains many metaphors, parables, and stories. They prepare you for practical application of the Secrets.

These stories and parables do not originate from the author nor does he claim them to be his. Most of these stories are folklore and Ancient tales of the world that have been passed down from the ages.

These teachings also do not belong to the author or originate from him; he has sat at the feet of the Master and under his guidance researched these Ancient Secrets from cultures and traditions across the world. He has extracted out the essence of the teachings and made it into a tincture for those who want to be successful.

There are two types of tinctures. The first type covers the surface and does not enter the depth of an object; it is like a thin veneer. The Masters have only repulsion for this type of tincture. The second type of tincture transforms the object into the tincture. This type of tincture soaks into the individual and he becomes the teachings. All theories, all speculations, and all hypotheses will fall off like rocket boosters falling off a space craft once it has freed itself from Earth's gravity. So too will the individual, with the understanding and practice of the Ancient Secrets, make a tincture for his success, immerse himself in it, and break away from the gravity of the ice cold intellect. He will then begin to live from his true Being.

To accomplish this objective easily and without much effort Ancient Secrets of Success has been divided in two parts. The first part befriends the mind and the intellect. It gives the intellect its rightful place. The intellect will realize that the foundation of its existence is Spirit, which is his Consciousness. Peace, Security, and Prosperity lie in total reliance on the Self. The Self is his Consciousness. The Mind can reach out and feel all it wants to feel. It can express life in all its grandeur and beauty. It can be in a place where there is no fear, no pain, no lack, and only unbounded abundance.

The mind is the totality of our memories and the intellect is the chooser and decision maker. Both are befriended by communicating with them in the language they understand, the language of stories, myths, and metaphors. This is the distilled essence of the wisdom of the teachings, not mere superficial theory.

The second part of Ancient Secrets of Success pours out the nectar of the Ancient Secrets for the mind and intellect to drink to their heart's content. The mind and intellect become disciples of Spirit, our Consciousness. This is accomplished through practical applications; through a system of meditation, as practiced by great emperors, kings, heroes, and poets of the past. This nectar of life tinges every fiber of the practitioner's Being. He realizes the meaning of an Ancient declaration from the Upanishads. About the Author
Nick Middleton is a Fellow and Lecturer in Physical Geography at St Anne's College, Oxford University. His background is in the physical side of geography but his interests span the entire subject. His academic role is supplemented by his work as an environmental consultant and freelance author having written more than 250 articles in journals, magazines and newspapers, and 18 books.

Aside from pages in the wrong place, it's an easy book to understand

This book is easy to understand, however it was unfortunate that the publisher sold copies that had pages missing and pages placed in the wrong chapters, out of order. It must have been a problem with the printing, because more than one person in the college course for which I was using this book had the same problem. We had all bought our books used, so there was no way to get a refund from the publisher. The book, otherwise, was fine, easy to understand, and not a difficult textbook in any way whatsoever. I am not an environmental science major (I am a social work and political science major, and I read this book for my one and only environmental science course), but I had no problem understanding the material in the book. Hopefully in future editions, the publisher will correct their printing problems.

About the Author

John P. McKay (Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley) is professor emeritus at the University of Illinois. He has written or edited numerous works, including the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize-winning book Pioneers for Profit: Foreign Entrepreneurship and Russian Industrialization, 1885-1913.

Patricia B. Ebrey (Ph.D., Columbia University), Professor of History at the University of Washington in Seattle, specializes in China. She has published numerous journal articles and The Cambridge Illustrated History of China, as well as numerous monographs. In 2010 she won the Shimada Prize for outstanding work of East Asian Art History for Accumulating Culture: The Collections of Emperor Huizong.

Roger B. Beck (Ph.D., Indiana University) is Distinguished Professor of African and twentieth-century world history at Eastern Illinois University. His publications include The History of South Africa, a translation of P. J. van der Merwe's The Migrant Farmer in the History of the Cape Colony, 1657-1842, and more than a hundred articles, book chapters, and reviews. He is a former treasurer and Executive Council member of the World History Association.

Merry E. Wiesner-Hanks (Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison) taught first at Augustana College in Illinois, and since 1985 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she is currently UWM Distinguished Professor in the department of history. She is the coeditor of the Sixteenth Century Journal and the author or editor of more than twenty books, most recently The Marvelous Hairy Girls: The Gonzales Sisters and Their Worlds and Gender in History. She is the former Chief Reader for Advanced Placement World History.

Jerry Davila (Ph.D., Brown University) is Jorge Paulo Lemann professor of Brazilian History at the University of Illinois. He is the author of Dictatorship in South America; Hotel Tropico: Brazil and the Challenge of African Decolonization, winner of the Latin Studies Association Brazil Section Book prize; and of Diploma of Whiteness: Race and Social Policy in Brazil, 1917-1945. He has served as president of the Conference on Latin American History.

Clare Haru Crowston (Ph.D., Cornell University) teaches at the University of Illinois, where she is currently associate professor of history. She is the author of Fabricating Women: The Seamstresses of Old Regime France, 1675-1791, which won the Berkshire and Hagley Prizes. She edited two special issues of the Journal of Women's History, has published numerous journal articles and reviews, and is a past president of the Society for French Historical Studies.

Thoroughly "Modern" History

I would describe "Understanding World Societies" as a thoroughly "modern" study of world history, meaning that it is preoccupied with perceived social, gender, and economic inequality in past world societies. It is not that these things don't have a place in study; and they are probably greatly interesting to some. However, the book boasts an overview of history, from pre-civilization-to-1600. So, you know, millions of years of history condensed down to about 400 pages of content (excluding pictures and such). To then revisit inequalities as a theme in every chapter... I can't help but wonder what I'm not learning.
