Lee Manning has been working to improve the educational experiences and overall well being of children for thirty years.� Dr. Manning is a Professor and Eminent Scholar in the Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction at Old Dominion University. He taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grade language arts for five years in the public schools of South Carolina.� Dr. Manning came to Old Dominion University in 1992. His professional interests and expertise include language arts, multicultural education, and classroom management.�

Dr. Manning has authored or co-authored 33 books and over 200 journal articles. Some of these journal articles have appeared in Kappa Delta Pi Record, Phi Delta Kappan, Childhood Education, Middle School Journal, Educational Horizons, High School Journal, The ALAN Review, and the English Journal.� Selected books include Teaching in the Middle School� 3e (Prentice-Hall Publishing, with Dr. Katherine Bucher of Old Dominion University), Multicultural Education of Children and Adolescents 5e (Allyn and Bacon Publishing, with Dr. Leroy� Baruth of Appalachian State University), Developmentally Appropriate Middle Level Schools 2e (published by the Association for Childhood Education International),� and Multicultural Education in Middle Level Schools (published by the National� Middle School Association). He also wrote the textbook, Classroom Management: Models, Applications, and Cases 3e, (Prentice-Hall Publishing, also with Dr. Katherine Bucher of Old Dominion University).� In addition, he has made approximately thirty national presentations about teaching and managing children.�

Dr. Katherine Bucher retired as Professor Emerita in the Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction (ECI) in the Darden College of Education at Old Dominion University.� She served as Assistant Department Chair of ECI and as Graduate Program Director for PreK-6 education, middle school education and K-12 school librarianship.� Dr. Bucher is the author or co-author of several books including Computers and Technology in School Library Media Centers; �Information Technology for Schools; Teaching in the Middle School; Classroom Management: Models, Applications, and Cases; Young Adult Literature, Exploration, Evaluation and Appreciation; and Books about the Middle East: Selecting and Using Them with Children and Young Adults. �Dr. Bucher has also written on literature, middle schools, and librarianship for peer-reviewed journals and has presented at various national meetings including Association for Childhood Education International, National Middle School Association, and American Library Association.

The first and last chapters are really interesting and great to read

The first and last chapters are really interesting and great to read. It is the middle chapters that were hard to read. The middle chapters present CM models and strategies that I tried to remember, I truly did, but I just could not connect the names to the right models or strategies. I'll give you a tip that my instructor gave me, do not try to memorize each model. Instead find and learn the models that connect with your classroom management philosophy, or CMP. Then practice these in your teaching.

Upon getting this book the pages were falling out and they steadily fall out whenever I flipped the pages. Now I and being charged to keep the book when it wasn't my fault the binding was bad.

Hughes was a gutsy writer with no predecessors to lean on...

This is the first Dorothy Hughes novel I've ever read. I had no idea how prolific this woman was, nor that she was the first, not Patricia Highsmith, to write an entire book from the criminal's point of view. These novels are not easy to find. Some publisher needs to collect them all and reprint. Vintage! Are you listening? I found the novel a little slow taking off, and of course in this day of the speedy "hook" this may be too egregious an error for a lot of people, but my persistence paid off with a trip into crimes committed by a psycho pathological mind that can one moment be brilliant, the next wracked with paranoia, the next with a complete misunderstanding of reality. All in all, Hughes seems to have great insight into such a mind. I would like to read more. Hughes is the beginning of a long line of criminal POVs in the book and movie/TV world, which has become so sophisticated as to give us an anti-hero like Walter White. She deserves kudos or damnation, depending on your own point of view.

One Of The Better Books Of The Higher Hardcovers

Nancy and a group of friends go on a ghost hunt to 5 different locations, each of which is supposed to be haunted. This is an average book of this series. The mystery is somewhat intriguing and Nancy and her friends come into contact with their enemies quite often, so there was a moderate amount of action in the book. One thing that I did find strange though was that all of the places that Nancy's group visited were randomly chosen, yet, in each case the same person was responsible for its being "haunted". This is, in my opinion, one of the better books from #35-56. I find that the books from that period generally read like tour guides, not mystery stories, and have way too much educational material which takes away from the mystery. While this book has a lot of interesting educational material about shells, I didn't think that it took away from the mystery; although, it does seem out of place at points. The thing that I liked least about the book was the ending. In a word, it is awful. Nancy's enemies walk into a room were Nancy and some police officers are hiding and unknowingly confess to everything before being captured. How exciting is that? It's not! It's a unfortunately terrible ending for an otherwise not bad book.

Everyone Should Read It!!!

This Was the the First Nancy Drew Book I read. (How long was that...Oh A year!!) Well This was so suspensful, it kept me on the edge of my seat!! I kept wondering, "What is that on the wall with glowing eyes, and a speaker in it???" Nancy's adventure leads her to an old house with lots of skeletons!! If you have not read any Nancy Drew Books, This would be a good one to start with because it has most of the characters and you can get to know them.

In this astounding series of Nancy Drew the Invisible Intruder is one book that will keep you on your tip-toes. In this story Nancy and her friends go on a ghost hunt to look into five different haunted houses. At first they incounter a supposely haunted canoe that propels itself through Lake Savenee.In the end Nancy captures the invisible intruder in the fantastic room of skulls in the last house. I really loved this book not once did I get bored.

This is not one of my favorite textbook. When using this book as a resource

This is not one of my favorite textbook. It is not as user friendly as other textbooks I have used. For example when you are looking for specific information to answer questions from the book, even after reading the chapters, its not easy to find. Sometimes the answers are in different chapter. A couple times I found answers for a chapter review 100 pages further along in the book. I had better luck finding answers in textbooks I have used for other classes. Sometimes I just went straight to google.

Exciting

I am reading the first book with my 6 and 9 year old now. It certainly keeps your attention! The first edition of the book was published in 2008.This addition was published in the UK in 2012. I think the website might have changed some since inception and the instructions to get the digital cards do not work. However, there is lots of info online and I was able to get the cards by going to the39clues.scholastic.com/getyourcards and then clicking on a book. You will answer a few questions using the book and then the cards will show up when you click on the my cards button when you are logged-on to your account. The cards seem to be independent of the books. The on-line opportunities for adventure and collecting might be great for some kids but we are just trying to keep up with homework and read the books at the present time.

20% Cooler than Getting Them at the Library

So, when I first got the series, I was like, "YES! FINALLY! WOOHOO!" The cards were more fun to get, since you unlocked them online, and the books had that awesome new papery smell. Even now, 3 months after getting the books, they still have a little bit of that scent. The books themselves were as fun to read as always, and now I can read my favorite book over and over without having to renew it at the library. So, as you sit here reading this review, I assure you that buying these books is not a waste of time! It's 20% cooler than getting them from the library.
(P.S, if you do buy the series, don't be surprised at how small the packaging is.{:-D)

solid controls system book

This is a solid clearly written book including the fundamentals of control system and process measurement. It does not include many details concerning newer control system technologies.

I used this book to study for, take, and pass my Control System Professional Engineers Exam. It was the only text book I had.

Acceptable Introductory Text

This book covers more than the title states, which forces it toward a fairly general text. Basic engineering equations for instrumentation, valves, and flow devices are included, as are practice questions, but are often too simplified for actual applications. However, since all calcuations now days are done on a computer (often via a vendor) this text would serve quite well in an introductory process enginering course. The only serious problem I found was with regard to the computer software related sections where the equipment is dated. Then again, anyone wishing to write about computers and software should realize that their information will be antiquated by the time the book hits the shelf!

This is the newer version of this text. The identical version was printed in the 1960's and is still sold on websites (such as amazon). The 1960's version is A LOT cheaper (like $2.00) as compared to what I paid for the reprinted 1990's version. It's the EXACT book with all the same questions only this one has a newer cover. The book itself is pretty good, although I only bought it for one of my cheg classes.

Required reading

This book is a must-have and a must-read for the person interested in the growth and progression of the Black community. There are some eye opening information relayed by Mr. Camara that may be too big of a pill to be swallowed by many. This is not a book for those that do not wish to experience any cognitive dissonance. If you fear having your beliefs challenged, then look elsewhere.
