This textbook is intended to be used in a variety of teaching situations from a traditional classroom lecture to individually paced instruction. Its primary function is to be used by the students.

Learning business mathematics is much like learning tennis. One can watch an instructor demonstrate a topspin forehand or read about it, but to master the technique, one needs careful explanation and practice, practice, and more practice. This textbook provides students with clear, detailed explanations of concepts followed by the necessary practice. Students participate actively in the course. A three-step procedure is followed:

Step 1: First, students read some explanatory material and are led through one or more worked examples.

Step 2: Second, students complete practice problems in the Your Turn feature.

Step 3: Finally, immediate feedback is provided using close-by answers and detailed solutions.

This three-step sequence facilitates the students' comprehension of various business math concepts by providing a means of "learning by doing."

Special features are included to make this text effective for students:

Careful attention has been given to readability and the visual organization of the instructional material. All business math techniques are clearly outlined in a Steps sequence, giving step-by-step guidance. Each section ends with an extensive set of practice problems and real-life applications. The material on determining time in interest calculations has been simplified and improved. The use of calculators in performing arithmetic operations with fractions has been emphasized. What I appreciate most about this textbook is the readability and practicality of the psychological terms and information presented. Many theories are rooted in real world examples that help the reader understand the application of these theories in everyday experiences. I find myself consistently drawing on information learned from this textbook in both academic and non-academic settings. This realization is consistent with the underlying focus on the importance of systems thinking highlighted throughout this text when understanding the psychology of sustainable behavior and living. Overall, this is a particularly useful textbook for someone new to psychology and interested in sustainability.

Specifically using a psychological lens to view these problems, you're sure to learn something new, interesting, and personally applicable. This is a good book that touches on a lot of topics related to a company. Its interested to learn how we each give off signals in the work place and how they may affect performance. It talks about email versus face to face communication, leadership and overall emotional intelligence. Easy read for best understanding.

NOT HELPFULL FROM A STUDENTS PERSPECTIVE

This book is so poorly written that if the professor relies solely on the book, the student will have no clue what on earth is going on, this is what I am experiencing now. The author could have done a better job dumbing it down so that a layman could understand it. One would need an intro class for this book alone before he/she would actually be able to understand some of the theories, due mainly to authors pretentiousness.

This book is a MUST READ for everyone!

I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn more about how the body fights diseases, infections and other foreign matters that find thier way into our systems. Glasser paints an incredibly vivid mental image of lymphocytes, antigens, macrophages, white cells, etc. using layman's terms and with excellent practical examples. Medicines don't cure our bodies - our bodies cure themselves. The Body is the Hero is a brilliant explanation of how the body does it. I am going to recommend this book to everyone I know.

This book is a superb and detailed examination of the miraculous working of our bodies, particularly the immune system as it has evolved over millions of years, and of the medical profession as it has fought hard against new insights that would have brought us much farther in medicine years earlier. Anyone reading this book will always have a greater appreciation for the body he inhabits.

A fascinating tale of a bungled fraud

A must read for those who are into a comically inept attempt at blackmailing the Greek government into revoking the constitution and taking early retirement. How the self-proposed perpetrators even hoped to pull this off is beyond the wildest imagination of any person subscribing to basic sanity. The purported role of international bills of exchange is distorted to form the use of US Treasury bonds which are somehow promoted by an obscure custodial bank in Canada albeit allegedly endorsed by President Obama himself. A stunning figure of US$600 billion in such "bonds" is supposedly meant to curiously pay off the Greek national debt in full. The players include a certain Soras, said to be a trillionaire (although he apparently resides in the port city of Patras in Greece rather than the marina resort principality of Monaco in the south of France), and the all important Lambrakis, said to be a medical practitioner in the borough of Queens, New York, in the USA, with a practice apparently geared to securing disability benefits for a great number of its patients. If this brief review does not compel one to acquire a copy of this well researched and delightfully amusing literary spectacle, one might be somewhat challenged to find another such entertaining comedy that would take one on a substantive fantasy trip.

Harnessing the sun’s energy via photosynthesis is at the core of sustainable production of food, fuel, and materials by plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. Photosynthesis depends on protection (photoprotection) against the perils of intense sunlight.� The first line of defense among a cascade of photoprotective mechanisms is the safe removal of excess excitation energy within the light-harvesting system. The widely used indicator for photoprotective energy dissipation (thermal de-excitation of excited-state chlorophyll) is the quick, facile, and non-destructive assessment of non-photochemical quenching of chlorophyll fluorescence (NPQ). By placing light harvesting and photoprotection into the context of whole-organism function, this book directs the use of NPQ to aid in the identification of plant and algal lines with superior stress resistance and productivity. Furthermore, this volume addresses open questions in the interpretation of the molecular mechanisms of light harvesting and energy dissipation, the resolution of which should aid in the development of artificial photosynthetic systems.
